The Wagga Amateur Picnic Race Club has come a long way in 105 years of racing.

The Picnics were started in 1906 by a group of local farmers wanting to race their own horses along with using the opportunity to encourage friends to travel from near and far, in what was to become and still is one of the social events of the Riverina calendar.

The Picnics were started in 1906 by a group of local farmers wanting to race their own horses along with using the opportunity to encourage friends to travel from near and far, in what was to become and still is one of the social events of the Riverina calendar.

The Picnic Race meeting has continued throughout the years, changing in time and format but always remaining true to it’s values. So that in 2006, the Picnic Race Club celebrated the Centenary of the Wagga Picnics with over 2,000 people on course to enjoy a magnificent day of racing and socialising.

Together with the social aspect of the day, the Picnic Race Club is committed as a nonprofit organisation to using the annual race day as an opportunity to not only host a social event but also to help the local community. The club has resolved to assist a local charity, in recent years that recipient has been Country Hope.

Through the combined efforts of the Picnic Race Club committee, together with the generous support of our sponsors and the tremendous support exhibited by the public, the Picnic Race Club has been able to donate $240,000 to Country Hope over the last 8 years.
